Wet dream - Do I have to start all over again

Dhananjay • 1/24/2012
Question

Dhananjay,

Thank you for taking time out to teach many of us the importance of the vital fluid.  A quick question.   I am on my 5th month and feel great, but had a wetdream lastnight.  Do I have to start over in my timeframe of being pure, as if I masturbated/had sex?? Or can I still say to myself, "this is my 5th month" ???

Thank you for your awesome energy,
Mike

Answer

An occasional, involuntary wet dream during sleep is not considered as a break in Brahmacharya. Only voluntary loss of semen in the waking state, carried out under awareness, resets the practice back to start and qualifies to be called a break.

However, it will be very necessary to ensure that one maintains absolute efforts towards Brahmacharya in thought, word and deed while awake, if wet dreams are to reduce and finally disappear. Events in the dreaming state are a pointer of mental thoughts indulged while being awake, either recently or in the past.
