Question
Thank You Dhananjay G...

I have few more questions...
One is regarding to diet...I am vegetarian but i do consume garlic and onion which are considered as a tamsic food and is not good for brahmcharya..as i am am living with my roommates in china..and they consume each and everything except me and one fellow..so i have to eat whatever is in the kitchen(veg)
and also sometime i drink tea...so should i leave the garlic and onion and also the tea
My second question is in my mind i am highly spiritual and only thought that crosses my mind is brahmcharya and god..and in these deep thoughts i am unable to pick my course (MBBS) books but my mind always like to read all the matter that is on celibacy and yoga each and every time..which will create problems for me as my career will not shine much..in short i think more and do less...
and the other is more personal problem rather than a question..
i am in relationship from last 4 year and i love her so much(she is in india)..but from last year we are having trouble in our this relationship and i found that she is not the right girl for me and she did so much damage to me emotionally and psychologically and now i want to leave her and move on to the path of celibacy ..because of these problem i am unable to meditate and study as i go to bed to sleep the thoughts of these pain full memories which she has given me starts to run in my mind and i find and feel my self so pain full and miserable and i cannot talk to anybody about this and feel helpless....whatever happened to me is so wrong and now i want to get rid of this....so please help me.....
as i am in brahmcharya from last three months and i consider it as a beginning i will keep asking you for your help and guidance time by time and step by step...
Thanking you

Answer
1. Since eating food containing onion and garlic is inevitable in the present situation, there is no option for the time being. Gradually taper down on tea drinking and substitute it with milk or a malted beverage. Then, you can fully give up on tea.
2. One should first persevere in following ones Dharma (duty). The duty of a student is to study and perform well in his course. Set aside a certain time of the day for Yogic practices and say 30 minutes to read material on Yoga/Brahmacharya. Brahmacharya is to be applied in reality and not merely read in theory. It is practice that matters the most. You can then focus the rest of your time on study related to your course. A student who does not strive honestly in his studies does not perform Dharma correctly. A student should conserve energy through Brahmacharya and apply this energy to develop physically, mentally, spiritually and academically.
3. A student should not get involved in relationships with the opposite sex. It becomes a distraction, waste of time and energy and finally ends in sorrow. The duty of a student is to strive in his field of study. Till one gets done with his degree, finds a job and stands on his own feet, one should not think or get involved in these matters. Even later, the woman who is involved in the mans life should be the wife and not others. Interactions with all other members of the opposite sex should always be to the point, brief, limited to necessity and never more. Any involvement beyond such limits always ends in sorrow. This is the truth & beyond doubt. Hence the wise man does not waste his resources on this path which leads to suffering.
Give up on all memories of your past associations with members of the opposite sex. All such thought/activity is a sheer waste in every sense. It will give nothing but pain and suffering. The man who craves/runs after a woman begets sorrow and nothing else. There need be no doubt about this. The wise man does not behave in this way. The role of a woman in a mans life is in the form of his lawful wife. Any involvement without/outside marriage can never bring happiness. When the right time comes, God will send forth such a wife. Till then, do not think about this topic. God has been kind to you by giving you a chance in the path of Brahmacharya. Persevere honestlty in this path and study well for your course. Only then will you shine well. Your parents have striven to accommodate you in the course. It is your duty to give your best and return their love with gratitude. Do not let the mind get distracted by anything or anybody else.
