Upliftment

Question

Firstly, I would like to say that you are doing tremendous service to humanity by sharing your knowledge and experience on such a vital topic.

To begin with, I would like to disclose that I am addicted to onanism since the past 12-13 years. It is a vicious cycle which I am certainly not proud of. Though I am at the lowest point of my life, I thank God that I am still alive, which gives me hope that I can turn things around.

Aristotle had stated, we are what we repeatedly do. The fact is so simple that we humans take it for granted. How can I create something productive if I have been repeatedly practicing onanism since a decade.

Whenever I have abstained for even 2-3 days, I have noticed a spike in my energy and overall health. I am willing to devote myself to Brahmacharya/celibacy for the remainder of my life, except for having a child when I get married, as I now understand that the only real purpose of sex is the propagation of species, and certainly not something any civilized individual should indulge in for mere pleasure.

I would be highly indebted to you if you could answer these questions with complete specificity.

1. I would be turning 28 years old in March 2017. Given the torture that I have put my body through for more than a decade, can I regain my health back if I strictly practice Brahmacharya, take up some kind of exercise on a daily basis, and get adequate sleep at night?

2. Can you share some of your personal experience related to Brahmacharya? When did you start practicing Brahmacharya, what were your reasons behind pursuing this path, and how do you cope with the sexual drives?

3. Lastly, what would be your word of advice for someone like me who has taken things to the extreme?

Finally, I am not doing this because I want to gain some super power as claimed by the people doing NoFap. I just want to get my sanity and health back so that I can fulfill my duties to the best of my capability.

Thank you.

Answer

1. Brahmacharya is the way to health, happiness and well being. The complete Yoga Sadhana described in past answers aids success in Brahmacharya. Perform the same with sincere devotion to the Lord to realize the self. Things will go in the right direction.

2. Things happen as per HIS will. The efforts of an entity that has striven in the path to the self are a result of HIS grace alone. There is nothing more of importance than this truth.

3. Take up the practice with surrender and single minded devotion. The effects of the past will eventually vacate and life will get blessed. You will have all the energy required to uplift yourself.

ॐ तत् सत्
(That Supreme being is the absolute truth)
