Question

Namaskaar Dhananjay,
Thank you for your kind servive to mankind.
I've been following the yogic schedule as outlined by you.But I had some questions-

1.I realized that naadi shodhana & the pranayama following it are almost same in the technique(identical to anulom vilom). Is it or is it not?

2.what should be the duration of one asana & one bandha?also, how many sets of asanas & tribandhas should we perform?

3.Can I incorporate pranayamas like bhastrika, kapal bhati, anulom vilom, bhramri, ujjayi, chandrabhedi etc.(as explained by swami ramdevji) in the schedule? If so,where?

4.Is Pranav pranayama same as meditation?

5.Swami Ramdevji has explained naadi shodhana which includes bandhas also.Is this also correct?

Answer

1. Nâdi Shodhana is a process meant to clear the Nâdi-s (astral energy channels) through Puraka (inhalation) and Rechaka (exhalation) from alternate nostrils on a continuous basis. It does not involve Kumbhaka (retention) of breath. Pranayama involves Kumbhaka. This is the difference. Hence the two are not the same

2. An Âsana should be performed slowly and smoothly with proper breathing and the final pose maintained for as long as possible. The time taken varies, depending on the type of Âsana. The breath retention in Bandha-s is 3~5 dseconds. Each set of Thribandha can be performed three times.

3. The Pranayama-s you have mentioned are preliminary to actual Kumbhaka Pranayama and are to be performed prior to it.

4. No

5. Since I donot have knowledge of Swami Ramdevji’s techniques as regards Âsana, the query is out of purview.
