Mastering Kevala Kumbhaka

Dhananjay • 9/17/2012
Question

Sir,
In how much time the practice of kevali kumbhaka can be mastered by a person, if done with sincere and punctual efforts from one's side? I read somewhere that if one masters this pranayama, he becomes immune to all illnesses and the 6 flaws of the senses; kama, krodha etc. Are the forementioned qualities a qualification for becoming an urdhvareta?

Answer

The time taken depends on various factors such as the intensity of practice, past karma etc. One should not worry about the time required. Our right ends at honest and correct practice backed with a life of Yoga & unbroken Brahmacharya with the utmost devotion to God. When such efforts are applied with sincerity for liberation, the Lord makes these things happen at the right time. One should focus on the practice of a life of Yoga and forget all other expectations.
