Question

hello sir,
i have begun reading the bhagvad gita and i came across people who said sri krishna was not a moral person and did incorrect things like keeping 16000 wives and troubling the gopis , the river incident and many other cases.i tried to search the net but was not satisfied with views of other people and in some places a lot bad things were written about sri krishna. since in bhagvad gita sri krishna speaks and teaches ,these things keep troubling me and is disturbing my study.what are your views on this.should i consider the knowledge of gita as coming from the nirguna brahman and all these immoral things as indicators of dualistic world and forget them as maya. please calm down these waves of ignorance around me.

thank you

Answer

When a spiritually advanced Yogi experiences ‘Nirvikalpa Samadhi’ (non-dualistic state of superconsciousness with the Supreme), it is termed ‘Urdhva Sangama’ (upper union occurring at the Sahasra Chakra). It confers supreme bliss, helps one get free from bondage and leads to the greatest strength (unlike the ‘Adha Sangama or lower union of the genitals between man & woman which causes depression, bondage and weakness). The union of the Gopi-s with Lord Krishna was such a divine union at the highest level of consciousness. It was not physical in nature. All these Gopi-s were highly spiritually advanced with no other desire but that for ‘Samadhi’ with the Lord in the highest state of superconsciousness, beyond the body and mind. They were constantly in the thought of the Lord and totally unaware of themselves or their surroundings. Such was their Bhakti (devotion) to the Supreme. Lord Krishna who was an Avatar of the formless Almighty was the object of their meditation. The love described was of the purest nature as that which exists between the Lord and his devotee. There wasn’t the least lust or passion.

The intensity of this love for the Lord has been illustrated as ‘Krishna Leela’ in terms of HIS Leela (divine play) as the common man cannot understand the meaning of Samadhi. Ignorant people whose minds always roam in the sex plane label this in the only language they understand – The language of sex. To the Yogi wishing liberation, the very same concept is an inspiration for the highest state of union with the Lord through Samadhi.

ॐ तत् सत्
(That Supreme being is the absolute truth)
