Eyes - open or closed during meditation?

Question

Hi dhananjay,

hope you are doing good. i have some queries.

1.i have been doing hanuman chalisa recitation from past some years, so every year for 40 days i recite and unknowingly yesterday i ate American chocolate which my family friend gave and after eating i saw that it contains egg so did i get any dosha for this, should i start the recitation again of is it ok. plese give me advice.

2.in bhagavad gita 5th chapter in last verses it is said that we should do yoga sadhana with semi opened eyes and pointing our sight on the tip of the nose i tried by my eyes pain, can we do by closing eyes and it is said that we sleep if we do like that.please give your guidance.

Answer

1. Accidental deviations from food habits can be ignored as long as the act is not intentional.

2. Closing or opening the eyes does not matter. What matters is unbroken concentration on the Lord during meditation. Those who are sleepy will eventually sleep immaterial of whether the eyes are open or closed! Since closing the eyes helps prevent distraction to a larger extent, the same is preferred.
