The Supreme

Question

1) What is the subtle difference between Atman and Paramatman; Brahman and Parabrahman?

2) What can one do about external sounds such as cars passing, crows etc. during meditation? Merely remind the mind of their falsity?

3) Does meat eating (when a vegetarian diet is possible - unlike in a dessert) create illness causing karma for being part of a culture thriving off killing innocent creatures?

4) Does ignoring someone you hate (including refraining from pleasantries and greetings) constitute himsa? It is a deep, karmic, unexplainable and unconditional hatred. Interaction is kept to strict, POLITE, verbal delegation in the workplace. No love or hate is normally felt for ANY OTHER person and this is quite contemplative.

Answer

1. First realize the Atman. Other questions later, if they still remain...

2. When Pratyahara is perfected, external sounds do not matter.

3. One eats the food which is necessary, based on one's activity. Meat is the food for those indulging in hours of strenuous physical work. Under lack of such work, meat becomes toxic within the system. For a purely Yogic life, with a little physical activity and much meditation, meat is not necessary. So when one does that which is not necessary, he has to face the repercussions.

4. Hatred kills the one who hates. Being silent without malice does not produce negative karma.
