Food: Veg-Non Veg
Question
My brahmacharya's practice is much better now, this month I'll complete 8 months on and I owe you at least my gratitude for it, because you inspire me a lot, and probably without your tips it would be much harder if not impossible. The only issue for now is being my diet, since I'm living in my parents' house, and here I don't have access to very good veg food or high quality milk. My diet is consisting of bread, fruits, rice, lentil, butter and milk. Since I'm practicing strength training besides my Sadhana, I feel an urge to some other source of animal protein rather then milk, since it's not good milk, so I started to drink some raw eggs daily and I'm here to ask your view about it. Does it consists in himsa, since the eggs are not fertillized, and are basically only a waste product from the chicken's cicle and I'm in need of it? I didn't notice any change in my brahmacharya practice at all until now from doing it.
Thanks a lot, best regards.
Answer
There is no harm in eating any kind food for sustenance, based on the nature of one's activity. Consumption for sustenance does not amount to 'Himsa' (violence). However, meat is preferably avoided or to be taken very sparingly during the initial years of Sadhana as it can stimulate one's Rajasic nature, making the practice of Brahmacharya difficult. Past Vasana-s being very strong in the beginner, can cause a downfall very easily further to such food. Food does not cause trouble after many years of advancement, for the advanced Yogi eats a little of what's available, holding on to the Atmic state.
