Developing detachment
Question
QUESTION: hello sir, i when i practice brahmacharya, after 2 - 3 days i start having sexual thoughts but if i think that sex is disgusting as it involves the parts of a woman's body used for passing filth like urine and stool, i don't have any sexual thought again. But i want to know if this way is correct or not as it creates negative emotions in me and repulsion towards women. Thank you for your precious time in advance.
ANSWER: During the initial years of practice, one has to develop distaste for the body of a woman using the analogies you have mentioned. There is no other way. This is because the beginner is not advanced enough to separate the body of a woman from the Atman. He considers the body itself to be the person. Later, after many years of advancement, the distaste drops by itself to be replaced by the reality of the fact that the body is only a covering of flesh around the soul and that this world is only an illusion or Leela (play) of the Lord.

QUESTION: sir, thank you very much for your answer. Now i know that i am on the right track.i have 2 more questions for you. I'd be very grateful if you answer them - 1) whenever i indulge in sexual activity of any kind, after it i feel tremendously weak and become below average in studies and sports both and become emotionaly unbalanced but a mere 15 days of celibacy makes me emotionaly balanced, enthusiastic and i become good in studies and one of the best in football in my locality. Do other brahmacharis experience such poles apart results ? If they dont then why me?
2) why dont gurus like ravi shankar preach about celibacy? They teach about breath and how to manage your emotions and how to be in the present etc but i feel that all these things happen automaticaly when one practices brahmacharya . In my opinion brahmacharya is the main thing. So why don't modern gurus teach about it alot ?
Once again thank you for your valuable time in advance
Answer
1. The difference between a life of Brahmacharya and Abrahmacharya (incontinence) becomes apparent only after one practices it for some time. If your friends practice it for a few months, their experiences will also be the same.
2. This question should be posed to the concerned Guru-s.
