Bland food
Question
Sir,
Having read in your posts and on internet from gandhi ji's book about benefits of eating tasteless food and following same
I've been taking completely bland food including milk, sprouts, dalia, seasonal fruits, boiled moong from past 15 days and it has enabled me to experience one of longest stretches of conservation.
My query is can I eat home cooked roti subzi once in day or week just to give my brain these intermittent rewards of taste ( just to divide long stretches in small sections, thereby easier to fool brain) or should I completely avoid all taste that I usually derive from subzi now a days.
I do not struggle in eating bland food, in fact I feel confident that I am doing the right thing.
I've taken roti subzi once in a week and I admit that I found my self vulnerable after eating it as my mind was wanting to eat other sugar/salt food articles kept at home. I feel If I cannot control my palate, I won't be able to stand the onslought of lust whenever it strikes me. I follow early waking up, pranayam, mild excercise and focussed intellectual work day long.
Pls give your comments on it.
Answer
1. It is preferable to take moderately spiced food, as bland food may not be available at all places and at all times. In a gist, one should gradually become indifferent to these things, rather than being attached to bland or otherwise. The mind is to be centered on the Atman (self). That alone matters.
2. Food matters much initially, but not so much after many years of advancement. One's inner voice shows the path to be taken, during different stages of Sadhana. It suffices to follow it.
