Vegetarian food and Vitamin B12

Dhananjay • 12/11/2012
Question

Hello Dhananjay,

Thanks a lot for your previous answers. I stopped eating eggs and drink milk only in the morning to practice celibacy. However i feel lack of energy during the day. It may be because of Vitamin B12 deficiency as i read in this article.

Should I start eating eggs? How do Bramhchari get vitamin B12 as they only take vegetarian foods.

Thanks,
Vaibhav

Answer

1. Where has it been said that one should not drink more than a glass of milk for Brahmacharya? Milk & dairy products are the chief sources of B-12 for vegetarians. After a large glass of morning milk, Include a full glass of thick curd (yogurt) in the afternoons after lunch and another glass of milk in the evenings as suggested in past answers. Also include butter/ghee etc. in the diet twice or thrice a week. This will suffice for the requirement of B-12.

2. Do not worry about the article. If the person writing the article had personal knowledge (from direct experience) as regards the effects of unbroken Brahmacharya (in thought, word & deed) with meditation and God devotion for a life of Yoga, such statements would not have been made.

The parameters stated in the article apply to people who lead a life laced with loss of energy from sexual thought/activity. Practicing a few ‘Asana-s' (postures) alone does not make a ‘Yogi’. Only complete and honest practice of the 8 Anga-s from Yama-Niyama to Samadhi for self-realization with devotion to God constitutes Yoga. Yoga is a perfect science and the methods suggested are complete, taking all factors into consideration.
